Vegan-Friendly Food Trucks in Boston, MA

The food truck craze has swept the nation!  This phenomenon has called me to examine the offerings in my own vicinity. Thus, I ventured into the various areas of Boston to locate vegan-friendly food trucks the city has to offer! Everyone should try to experience a few  vegan-friendly food trucks during their travels or in their own cities and towns, while preparing for their next journey.

My first vegan food truck encounter of the season was the “Bon Me” (Bon Me) food truck. I located the truck outside of a science and robotics festival at M.I.T. However, it can also be found at the SOWA Sundays art and crafts event in Boston.

Bon Me offers a couple of vegan-friendly items on their menu. My lunch choice  was the Roasted Soy and Paprika Rice Bowl with Roasted organic tofu and smoked paprika tossed in a soy dressing. The meal was very flavorful! I truly enjoyed it!bonmelunch

One sunny Sunday afternoon, I headed to the SOWA Sundays arts event and found the Fugu(Fugu ) food truck in the lot where the food trucks congregate to serve up hearty meals to hungry festival-goers.

They offer one plate that can be “veganized”.  Staff was knowledgeable as to what that implied and even offered suggestions for substitutions to make it vegan. I selected the Bibimbap Korean-style rice mixed with tofu, vegetables, red cabbage, and sweet pepper sauce. It was filling, spicy, and delicious!fugubibimbap

The Momogoose (Momogoose) food truck also calls the SOWA Sundays event one of its home bases. momogoosetruck

Though several items on the menu were labeled as vegan, the cook admitted that they were prepared using the same grill as the meat items. Therefore, my only available option was to order the Tofu Pho  soup. The rice noodle soup with large chunks of tofu and veggies in a clear, vegan broth was really tasty!

My final destination for the week, in the Boston food truck scene, was the vegan-friendly “Taco Party Truck” (Taco Party). This is Boston’s only, all vegan food truck at the moment! Their location schedule can be found online. Boston’s food trucks, for the most part are only available during lunch hours (11am to 3pm) or during special events and festivals. The Taco Party truck is an exception. They are also serving up meals on Thursday evenings from 6pm to 10pm behind the Brooklyn Boulders gym in Somerville.

For my dinner time meal, I opted for a taco combo plate consisting of the Stewed Seitan Taco with pickled red onion, green cabbage, and cilantro, and the Buffalo Roasted Cauliflower Taco with red hot cauliflower, lettuce, tomato, cucumber salsa and a vegan ranch dressing. A side of black beans accompanied my meal. This was a delicious and filling dinner! The combination of flavors was satisfying to my palate!

Several days later, I wanted to check out three additional, vegan-friendly food trucks. Rhythm N Wraps (Rhythm N Wraps) is another vegan-friendly food truck in the Boston scene. This completely vegetarian food truck offers several vegan options in the form of gourmet sandwiches. Please check their website for locations per day and time. One recent weeknight, they were serving up food during a music festival for the Hard Rock Cafe’s 25th anniversary party.

I selected their “Gangsta Wrap” sandwich. This vegan sandwich included smoked apple sage Field Roast sautéed in a sweet and spicy jerk hoisin sauce, greens, tomatoes, sour pickle slice with their special “Goddess Dressing” on a flour tortilla. My succulent sandwich was really wonderful! I enjoyed the tangy sauce, which was a perfect complement to the hearty and delectable “faux meat”. This healthy and creative food truck should be a ‘must do’ for vegan tourists!

Clover Food Lab (Clover Food Lab) operates several brick and mortar storefronts, as well as food trucks in quite a few Boston locations. Tourists may check their website for date and time locations. This all vegetarian food truck can veganize their offerings also.

For my lunch, I selected the chickpea sandwich in a pita bread. The chickpea fritters in a pita filled with red cabbage, carrots, diced cucumbers, and tomatoes, in a tahini sauce is a best seller! My tasty sandwich was fantastic!

Lemonade with local blueberries was my beverage. It was quite obvious that these were indeed fresh blueberries. I recommend that you try this amazing beverage also!

My next meal brought me to the Stoked Pizza food truck (Stoked Pizza Food Truck) in the Copley Square section of Boston. Tourists should check their website for locations on specific days and times. Their vegetarian items can create a vegan pizza using Daiya cheese. Diners can even select the ingredients of their liking to create their perfect vegan pizza.

I opted for the Veggie “Works” pizza consisting of kale, mushrooms, onions, and garlic over a tomato sauce; with vegan daiya cheese. Wow! This was a superb pizza! I enjoyed the chewy crust, the flavorful veggies, and the way the daiya cheese melted perfectly and evenly across the dough. Two thumbs up! Every tourist in town has got to try this vegan-friendly pizza truck!

I really enjoyed my vegan meals at some of Boston’s most  popular food trucks. The Boston  food truck scene is growing and evolving. Vegan options are becoming a bit more available at this point in time. A local cupcake truck that sometimes is available at special events, also carries a vegan flavor. Hopefully, in time, more vegan-friendly food trucks and even some “100% vegan” food trucks will be a common fixture in the city!
