Maria’s Advice – Indigenous Wellness Products By Country

Whenever I travel, I look for souvenirs or food that are indigenous to that destination. It especially interests me if that particular ingredient, plant, or food derives ONLY from that region. When I find those items, they are what I eat at the local restaurants or purchase as souvenirs.

The following are indigenous, region-specific products I have found during my travels:
1. South Africa –
A. Aloe Ferox ointments, moisturizing creams, teas, juices. The Aloe Ferox plant has healing propeties that have the reputation of healing burns & scars and moisturizing skin.
B. Rooibos Tea – anti-oxidant properties. I purchased Rooibos tea and also skin cream.

2. Argentina – Rose Mosqueta moisturizing creams and tea. Great for skin.

3. Egypt – Plentiful spice markets are found here. Buy herbs & spices from all over Africa. The popular local ones are cumin, cardamon, mint, oregano, basil, curry, ginger, vanilla, saffron, habiscus(for making tea), various non-grinded peppers, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

4. Brazil – Acai berry only grows here. The highest anti-oxidant levels we can consume. Extremely healthy! Purchase acai foods, beverages, teas, and skincare products such as moisturizing creams.

5. China – The amount and varieties of medicinal teas here are phenomenal! You can purchase teas for stomach aches, memory, sleep deprivation, anti-aging, everything that ails you physically and emotionally! I recommend purchasing some of these.

6. Greece – Any product containing olives, moisturizers, etc. Very good for skin.
The South African “wine country” region is also known for growing olives. I purchased some wonderful olive hand cream there in shop dedicated to olive-based products. Don’t forget to snack on them too!
