Maria’s Advice – Vegan-Friendly Airports

Hello fellow vegan travel buffs!
Just an FYI here to mention vegan-friendly airports.
The Physician’s Committee For Responsible Medicine came out with a report regarding the availability of healthy dining options at the nation’s busiest airports in 2009. The conclusions were that almost 80% of these airports offer at least one, low-fat, high-fiber, cholesterol-free vegetarian meal. Some are even vegan. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport ranked as the perfect place for healthy dining. Washington, DC airports ranked as low, not providing many healthy dining options at all. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport actually dropped in the healthy dining rankings. Most other airports have been steadily seeing their ratings improve, as more and more healthy vegetarian and vegan options are added to their restaurant menus.

The following USA airports have healthy, vegan-friendly dining options:

1. Salt Lake City – Squatter’s Pub (http://www.squatters.com/) serves tofu scramble and veggie burgers
2. Dallas/Fort Worth – 360 Gourmet (vegan burritos), Blue Bamboo Express, Cool River Cafe, UFood Grill (falafel roll-up)
3. Chicago O’Hare – Burrito Beach, Cafe Zoot, Cibo Express, Salad Works, Goose Island Brewing (marinated portobello panini) and a few other cafes offering vegan sandwiches.
4. Los Angeles – Sushi Boy, Creative Croissants
