Maria’s Advice – National Dishes

Hello vegan travel buffs!
I have come across some absolutely dee-li-cious meals during my worldwide travels.
I would like to share with you some of the “national dishes”, “traditional dishes”, and popular local beverages from some of the countries which I have visited. As I travel to additional countries, I will provide posts for those national dishes also.

National or traditional dishes and popular beverages:
1. Thailand:
beverage – Durian fruit juice
national dish – Pad Thai (rice noodle with tofu, broccoli, chili peppers, & peanuts
2. Costa Rica:
beverage – sugar cane juice, Horchata(cinnamon&cornmeal drink), and fruit juices(tamarind, mango, passionfruit)
national dish – Gallo Pinto (fried rice & black beans)
3. Brazil:
beverage – acai berry juice
national dish: Feijoada (black beans, “faux sausage” version)
4. Peru:
beverage – chicha(purple corn juice)
national dish – ceviche (vegan version) with potatoes
popular dish – lomo saltado (“faux beef” stir-fry)
5. South Africa:
beverage – rooibos tea
national dish – bobotie (vegan version “faux beef” and curry)
popular dish – Cape Malay curries , I got veggie curry version at Rooti’s on V & A
6. Egypt:
beverage – hibiscus tea
popular dishes – Ful Medames(fava beans), grilled eggplant, Kushari(rice, lentils, macaroni)
