Maria’s Advice – International Couchsurfing

Hey there Vegan Travelers!
I recently became aware of a wonderfully unique website and travel concept. It is known as couchsurfing. The corresponding website is www.couchsurfing.org.

This phenomenon allows domestic and international travelers to stay at someone’s home or apartment for free!! There are people all over the world who offer up rooms in their homes for brief periods to international travelers. Both parties benefit from meeting others from different cultures. Over 200 countries are included in this program. Approximately 2 million travelers have enjoyed the benefits of couchsurfing!

It is a non-profit site and free to join. Users can choose to be verified. This way you will feel safer about your host’s identity. The site even contains a “Tips” section to provide you with valuable information on how to be a host and how to be a couchsurfer. The site even includes references and vouchers on host to insure your safety. Members may also post comments regarding scammers.

New users can create a profile, login, search for rooms in your country of choice and review the host references and testimonials of previous couchsurfers!! All in all, it appears to be a great, safe, inexpensive way to travel across the globe. Since the accommodations are free, it leaves cash for vegan dining. Also, because it does not include city tours or such, vegan travelers are not forced to dine at non-veggie friendly establishments as may have been necessary as part of a large tour group. You are free to dine at vegan restaurants of your choice!!

This sounds like a wonderful travel option. Many have been doing it. Now its time for you to give it a try!!

  1. Couch surfing is definitely an interesting idea. The best hostel I ever stayed at was owned by a guy who had been a couch surfing host for years and had taken advice from all the travellers he had staying with them about their perfect hostel. Then he built it 🙂

  2. Been using Couchsurfing for over two years and absolutey love it! Met so many great people while surfing and hosting. Can only recommend it =D
