Maria’s Advice – International Vegan Communities

Here is an interesting topic I was not aware of until recently! Did you know that there are actually vegans living together in organized communities across the globe? When you go on holiday, you may want to locate one of these residential groups and may even want to make a decision about co-habitating there yourself. These vegan communities can be found in the mainland USA, Hawaii, and all across Europe, among other places. See
www.libaware.economads.com. While a couple of the links do not work, the others will take you to the home pages of these international community sites.

Residences/Living Space:
These communities do not all have the same goals or living arrangements. You should look at each and determine which is best for you. Some of these communities provide homes for which you can purchase a share, then you may give up your ownership portion when you no longer reside there. Many of these communities offer guest houses for visitors who wish to experience the culture on a temporary basis. The guests are then free to roam around the grounds to check out the property and community. One community allows members to build environmentally friendly homes themselves.

The Food:
While many of the communities appear to be strictly vegan, others are also open to different food options. The main goal is to dine on healthy, organic, eco-friendly, easily sustainable food sources. Some communities produce the organic fruits and vegetables on their own farms. Others purchase healthy, organic produce from nearby farms or markets.

The Lifestyle/Community Goals:
The lifestyle is one of community building and projects with other people who are interested in the environment and healthy eating. Although, these communities share many values and goals, they each have their own unique approach. Some communities contain an eco-village where everything is environmentally friendly. The homes may be solar powered. As mentioned earlier, they may have organic gardens on their lands. The community may have a shared kitchen which provides community meals. Residents provide funds to contribute to the meals. Community meetings are held to share information on the community and its ecological projects. Classes may be offered which focus on the environment, sustainability, community farming, and permaculture. The goal of these communities is for its members to work together towards sustainability and to build an environmentally safe, eco friendly world.

You may want to visit one these communities during your next holiday!
